newsraft is a feed reader with a ncurses user interface. It attempts to be lightweight version newsboat. newsraft supports parallel downloads, section-based feeds grouping, opening links in any program, viewing news from all feeds with explore mode, automatic updates for feeds and sections, multiple actions key bindings, support for feed generating scripts, text search by news titles, and interactive interface for viewing news content.

Binary packages can be installed with the high-level tool pkgin (which can be installed with pkg_add) or pkg_add(1) (installed by default). The NetBSD packages collection is also designed to permit easy installation from source.
The pkg_admin audit command locates any installed package which has been mentioned in security advisories as having vulnerabilities.
